— Hannah P.
“Such a great find for a high-energy dog. While searching for treats, she stays fully focused and gets mentally tired in the best way.”
— Sarah K.
“We use it when the weather is bad or we can't get a long walk in. It keeps my dog busy and calm.”
— Olivia A.
“The product is high quality and my girl spends 15–30 minutes happily distracted with it.”

A calmer dog and a quieter house often start at the food bowl. If your dog inhales dinner in ten seconds and then turns that restless energy on your shoes, the couch, or the doorbell, the Puzzle Feeder gives that busy, problem-solving brain a real job to do — the way working dogs are wired to earn their food.

How it works: instead of a free meal, kibble hides under flip lids, behind sliders, and inside the clear spinning dome. Your dog has to nose and paw each piece out, one puzzle at a time. That bit of brainwork tires the mind the way a walk tires the body, and slowing the meal down settles a fast, anxious eater instead of winding them up.

  • Two difficulty levels — start easy, then make it harder as your dog outsmarts it
  • 8 compartments (6 flip-top lids + 2 sliders) plus a clear spinning dome that shows the reward inside
  • About 10.2 in / 26 cm round — holds a normal 50–200 g meal
  • BPA-free, food-grade plastic with a non-slip base so it stays put while they work
  • Lids and dome lift off for an easy rinse between meals

This is a feeding and enrichment toy, not a chew toy — use it for meals and treats with you nearby, and put it away once dinner is solved.

Why it works

Built around how dogs are wired.

Every SettlePaws toy works one natural instinct. Cover all three and you cover the whole dog.

What vets and research say

Real findings from peer-reviewed studies and veterinary guidance, matched to this toy.

Brain work tires like exercise

Vet groups note a good food puzzle mentally tires a dog as much as physical activity, so they settle afterward.

Less boredom behaviour

Regular, suitably challenging food puzzles are recommended to reduce boredom-driven chewing and barking.

The difference

A bowl feeds. A kit settles.

An ordinary bowl
  • Gone in thirty seconds
  • Energy still bottled up
  • Gulping, then the clean-up
  • Boredom finds the couch
A SettlePaws kit
  • Ten to fifteen calm minutes
  • Nose work drains the energy
  • Slow eating, a settled gut
  • A real job for the brain

In your kitchen

Three steps to a calmer dog.

1 Fill Press food or treats into the mat, bowl or puzzle.
2 Work it Your dog sniffs, licks or solves to get it — focus kicks in.
3 Settle The pacing stops; most dogs flop and nap.

Good questions

Before you buy.

Will this actually tire my dog out?

Yes, in the way mental work tires a dog. Sniffing out and working open each compartment makes the brain do the job, so many dogs settle and rest more after a session than they would after a plain bowl.

How does it keep them busy if my dog is smart?

It has two difficulty levels. Start with the easy flip lids, then add the slide lids and the spinning dome so a quick learner has to keep working it out instead of solving it once and walking off.

Is it easy to clean?

The flip and slide lids and the clear dome lift off, so you can rinse and wipe the base and the pieces by hand between meals. We do not list it as dishwasher-safe, so hand washing is the safe call.

What size is it and which dogs is it for?

It is a round feeder about 26 cm (10.2 in) across and just over an inch tall, made for brain and IQ work rather than a set weight. It suits most breeds that eat dry kibble or small treats.

What goes in it, and what is included?

You hide dry kibble or small dry treats under the 8 compartments (6 flip-top, 2 slide-top) and inside the clear dome; it holds roughly 50 to 200 g per fill. You receive the feeder itself, ready to load.

Is it a chew toy, and do I need to supervise?

It is a feeding and enrichment feeder, not a chew toy, so supervise your dog while they use it and put it away after the meal. A determined chewer should not be left alone to gnaw on the lids.
